According to the AEG

Nominations close at Midday on Thursday 15 August, with the ballot draw and release of the candidate's names occurring after midday on Friday 16 August.

ABC have this to help us at this time:

Will we get a strong independent candidate? We will know soon.

If you're thinking about standing as a candidate, there is a guide that outlines the steps you will need to take when nominating for the Senate or the House of Representatives.
